Pittsburgh Update
Seminary started a few weeks ago and things are going well. I’ve found seminary to be fairly straight forward and the work load is manageable. The only trouble I get myself into is wanting to read other stuff instead of class work, for instance I’m reading four other books that are just interesting, six if two systematics count. I’m half way through DA Carson’s new Book Worship by The Word, he doesn’t end up an accapella psalmist, but its very a good read. I’m also reading Ordinary Radical, I bet that most of you would read that title and guess that I would really like the book, but so far he has not convinced me that I need to grow my hair out and live in inner city Philly as a communist, like he is. The other two books are on worship, one by John Frame and another by David Peterson, both are good. To his credit, Frame is the only writer that I have read who contends with the RP argument. I had always thought that other Presbyterians didn’t try to square their worship with the regulative principle, but Frame does. The last two are systematics one by Frame and the other by Wayne Grudem. Grudem’s is interesting, he is a reformed theologian who does not believe in the cessation of gifts, and he actually has some really interesting things to say on the whole matter. So thats my fun reading list right now. Who would had thought that the Comm. major would enjoy studying God so much.
In other news Jo and I bought a house. 5201 Duncan St 15201 its a tiny home, but its in nice shape and we are happy with it. I put a video walk thru on our web site ( www.thedesocios.com). The house is 3 Bedrooms and its located in a very dense Pittsburgh neighborhood so we like it. The best part is that the mortgage will end up being cheaper than our rent, go figure.
