Tuesday Tunes: Good Night, States

While checking out the wyep concert calendar last night I found out that Good Night, States was playing this Friday. God Night, States are a local Pittsburgh band, though some of their members now travel from Philly and NYC.
I found out about the band because one of their Guitarists, Joe , lived with a friend of mine.

Last year when Good Night, States put out their first album I picked it up and it was great.

Be sure to check out their album “Short Films On Self-control

Tuesday Tunes: Sojourn Music

About a year and a half ago Dan Snoke Cory Linfield and I all took a road trip down to Louisville to visit Sojourn Church. I had blog about their 930 center earlier that year and one of the guys dropped me a note about visiting them and so we did. While we were down there we were warmly welcomed buy all the folks at sojourn and they even gave us a copy of their CDs.

I am one of those people that is really leery about “Christian” music, or worship music, but I really enjoy all the stuff that the folks at Sojourn puts out. Sojourn is also doing an awesome job of being a participant if the local music scene, so if you pick up their album you know you are supporting
Here are a few links to their stuff…

And here is a video from their upcoming new CD

Tuesday Tunes: The Octopus Project

As I have noted before one of the benefits of emusic is that you are perpetually being introduced to new artists. Such was the case with The Octopus Project, and their Hello, Avalanche release. The octopus project is a energetic, and eclectic mix of many influences. Rather than butcher the comparisons I’ll let their music speak for them.

Tuesday Tunes: Yeasayer’s All Hour Cymbals

All Hour CymbalsWhen I was a kid my grandmother gave me her old record player, and at the same time I came into a collection of my father’s and step father’s records. Among those records was To Our Children’s Children’s Children from the Moody Blues. As as kid I remember falling asleep listening to the b-side of that album. In many ways that album was the soundtrack to my dreams.

Yeasayer’s All Hour Cymbals is similar in many ways. While TOCCC evoked a feeling of a majestic world that time forgot, All Hour Cymbals evokes an equally majestic feel, but for a time that is yet unborn.
If you are unfamiliar with TOCCC than this might mean much to you. All Hour Cymbals stands on its own as a stirring and beautiful album. I would recommend you give it a listen.

Tuesday Tunes: The Broken West

A few months back I was looking for some new music over at emusic.com, when I came across The Broken West. I found them because they are on Merge Records, the same label that Neutral Milk Hotel, Spoon, and She & Him are on. While The Broken West’s Now or Heaven isn’t the best album I heard last year, but I would put it in my top 10. I’ve purchased 20 or 30 albums in the last 12 months, and I find myself often putting on The Broken West at least once a week.

I would recommend you check them out.
