I got a frantic call from my mom at 11m last night. Normally I would have let it got to voice mail, but then I thought “what if something happened to my grandmother” so I picked it up. She was frantic, but my grandmother was fine. She was frantic because she had just gone on facebook–yup Im friends with my mom–and she had freaked out about a photo she saw on facebook.
So let me set the record straight about my tattoos:

New Tattoo Idea

Im thinking about getting this tattooed on my elbow.

Its a seraphim which is an angel described in Isaiah 6:

Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”

New Tattoo

A few days before my birthday I got my new tat.
Its only half done, and it hurt a lot. Its taken a while for it to heal so I’ve been holding off on putting any pictures up.
Here it is:

Its from Revelation Chapter 21, where God is finally reconciled to his people in the new Jerusalem.
God says to John in this passage:
“It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.”

I’m betting that some of you have some questions for me about my tattoo or why I have any tattoos.

Yesterday I got a new tattoo.

Four years ago I got my first tattoo, its a verse on the inside of my right wrist that says “Be not overcome by evil but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21″

if you read my post from last spring about how I was thinking about getting a new tattoo, you will notice that pura vida was not mentioned on the list.

So here is what happened:
Last summer my college roomate and good friend Nate O’neill was killed while learning to ride a motorcycle. He was doing this to prepare for economic development work he was planning to do in the jungles of Brazil where the best means of transport is by motorcycle.
A few months before he died he got a tattoo while living in Costa Rica, it said Pura Vida, which is generally seen as a warm greeting, and the cultural motto of that country.

So after hanging out with some college friends that knew Nate, that I would get Pura Vida as my next tat.
